The relationship between words, pictures, movement, music, sound effects and colour is the greatest keyboard yet that modern technology has to offer the creative artist. (Tony Helas).

The above statement hung up at the Queensland College of Art in the studio practice room where Peter studied a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Animation. In his younger days Peter was a mad fan of the Peanuts gang by Charles Shultz and Asterix Adventure Albums written by Goscinny and illustrated by Uderzo, one of the best cartoonists of all time. This interest had a profound effect on Peter, which led him down the road toward his artistic pursuit.

In his third year of study at Queensland College of Art, Peter’s dream was realised when he was fortunate enough to be recruited by Walt Disney Studios after passing their entrance tests. There he worked on “Winnie the Pooh”, “Gummie Bears” and “Dark Wing Duck” series.

This was a great start to Peter’s career and since then has worked with different film & animation studios on various projects as an animator, clean up artist, layout artist, storyboard artist and concept designer.

Crunchy Lunch Animation Sequence

This is the raw animation Peter animated for a one-minute interstitial pilot series called “My Life So Far”, for the Disney Channel. Charlie Company ended up adding some live action background material before presenting it.

This one-minute sequence required approximately 720 drawings. An elaborate model sheet of her head, in various positions, was created to help with the continuity of the sequence.

The Proud Family Layouts

Peter was contracted by Liquid Animation to design layouts for the “Proud Family” series, Disney production. Below is a sample of a few layouts depicting key animation poses and background designs.

Emu Bitter Commercial

Liquid animation worked with Singleton, Ogilvy and Mather to create this uniquely Australian, 2D animated award winning commercial for Lion Nathan’s Emu Bitter beer.

The very talented Arthur Filloy was largely responsible for the stylised character designs and scenes. I was privileged to work under his art direction on layout and composition, styling, and lighting characters. Below are a few examples.
